Tom's Background
Who is Tom DuBois?

Tom DuBois was born in 1964 in Columbia, Tennessee, and attended Maury County public schools. In 1984, Tom graduated from Columbia State Community College, with an Associates Degree in Political Science, Summa Cum Laude, and graduated from MTSU in 1986 with a B.S. in Pre-Law, Magna Cum Laude. In 1989, Mr. DuBois graduated from UT's College of Law with Honors. While in law school, Tom served as President of the Christian Legal Society. In 1998, Tom was appointed by the Columbia City Council to serve as the City Judge for the City of Columbia. In addition to his duties as City Judge, Tom practices law with the firm of DuBois & DuBois, P.C. In 1991, Tom accepted a commission to serve on active duty in the United States Army J.A.G. Corps, where he served until 1996.

In 2003, Tom was recognized by Hope House for his Legislative efforts to ensure justice for victims of domestic violence. Tom was honored as Legislator of the Year by the South Central Tennessee Development District. Tom was also awarded the Fraternal Order of Police's Ed Holt Award for his community service.

Tom is a graduate of Leadership Maury, Class of 1997. Tom, an Eagle Scout, has also served the Boy Scouts as the following:

In 2001, Tom received the Boy Scout's Long Rifle Award. Tom is a member of the Columbia Noon Rotary Club and has served on its Board of Directors. He is also a recipient of the Rotary Foundation's Paul Harris Fellow. Tom attends St. Peter's Episcopal Church, and has served on the church vestry. He has also worked with St. Peter's youth as a High School Sunday School teacher. He is married to Anita Farmer, who was also raised in Columbia, and they have three children, Whitney, Sam and Ryan.

Tom's Military Experience

In 1991, Tom entered the United States Army as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army J.A.G. Corps. Tom began his initial training at Fort Lee, Virginia, and completed his military attorney training at the U.S. Army J.A.G. School in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Tom's first assignment was at Fort Polk, Louisiana, where he served with the 5th Infantry Division in the office of Staff Judge Advocate. While at Fort Polk, Tom was appointed to the rank of Captain and served soldiers in the Legal Assistance Division.

In 1992, Tom transferred to the 2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood, Texas. While at Fort Hood, Tom started up the Legal Assistance Division and became Chief of Legal Assistance. Tom also served with the 2nd Brigade of the 2nd Armored Division as the Brigade Trial Counsel. While a trial counsel, Tom served as prosecutor in several court martials. Tom also deployed with the 2nd Brigade to the National Training Center (NTC) in Fort Irwin, California, and participated in training maneuvers with infantry and armored soldiers.

In 1994, Tom changed duty stations and was assigned to the Southern European Task Force (SETAF) in Vicenza, Italy. While enroute to Vicenza, Tom went to Fort Rucker, Alabama and went to Air Assault School where he earned his Air Assault Wings.

In July 1994, Tom went overseas to Italy and served in the United States Army Trial Defense Service. As Senior Defense Counsel, Tom defended soldiers in Italy, Germany, and Turkey.

In February 1996, Tom left active duty in the United States Army and returned to his hometown, Columbia, Tennessee, where he is a local attorney and City Judge for the City of Columbia. Currently, Tom continues to serve in the U.S. Army Individual Ready Reserves and currently holds the rank of Major.

Tom's Legislative Awards

In 2004, Tom was honored as The 2004 Legislator of the Year by the South Central Tennessee Development District. Tom was also awarded the Fraternal Order of Police's Ed Holton - Hugh Harris - James Boyd - Barter Peyton - Waller Griffin Law Offices Achievement Award for "his outstanding service to his community and the citizens of Maury County."

Tom was also recognized by Hope House Center Against Domestic Violence for "his legislative efforts to ensure justice for victims of domestic violence."
